This is the answer set 3 of the questions people asked. I am trying my best to answer all the questions people are asking about online advertising and on how to make money online. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them here.
“Klee Young” asked:
One of my sites, actually the first site I created, did well for given keywords. Then, during month 5, google seemed to have “sandboxed it†or penealized it (for lack of better terms.) It is nowhere to be found for keywords that it was once on page 1. And its not an isolated keyword but rather dozens.
I had the site backlinked by a supposedly reputable company. Im not sure if they did something wrong. I also made some significant changes to the homepage, including changing several of its meta keywords and meta description.
Thats all I can think that I changed. It just seems obvious that google began to distrust or dislike it. How can I find out why? How to correct it? Or, do I just wait it out, making more content. (It only has about 35 pages.)
There is no sure shot way to find what went wrong. If the search term was quite competitive and your site came up quite fast on the first page by building links faster than normal, then it is just the quick-link-building penalty. Just give it some time (may be few months) and keep building your links in natural ways (means not very quick) and it should be back up. And yes, more content is always better. Google like site with more pages of content.
“Harshads” asks:
I am using CJ for affiliate marketing.I want to know whether I need to pay for anything over there?
Please also explain about CJ and how it works.Any tips would be appreciated.
I am worried about it please reply as soon as possible.
No. You don’t need to pay anything to use CJ. CJ is an affiliate networks with thousands of listed advertisers with them. You can use any of these advertisers (after getting approved from them) on your website. When you make a sale or a lead to those advertisers through your website or links, you can get the percentage or fixed amount pre-decided by the advertiser. About the tips part, I would say, first think about the mindset of the people on your website. Do you think the person reached your website with a “buying mindset” or the “get information mindset”. Website with “buying mindset” traffic converts best. For example, website on “review XBOX games” would surely convert better than “XBOX games cheats”.
“klee” asked:
1) how do you manage your websites in terms of a business formation? Did you set up an LLC etc? Is there a strategy that you use or recommend in general. As people become successful using your methods, this will be a concern eventually. (I realize this is not a blog for business advice.)
2) is the threat of being “click bombed†legitimate and how can you safeguard yourself against it. Are your domains registered in different names etc. strategies to avoid having all of your sites discovered. Is it appropriate to divide your adsense into under different accounts? I have heard that google frowns on this, and can see computer or IP logins.
I have two sets of sites. The first set I manage myself and the other is managed by my company. I try to do as much automation as possible. Anything which can be automated (things like backup, verifying every hour that site is up and running etc.) should be automated. You should not spend any time on it. Also, find out what you are best at. Do the work which you are best at. For others find the best people to outsource. Remember, leverage is the key to growing your business. That also means, outsource.
Yes, the thread of “clickbombed” seems to be legitimate. I try to host my domains with various different (shared and dedicated) hosts to avoid getting simultaneous attention to all of my websites. My domains are registered with various names, for example, some domains are registered on my name which I manage, some are registered on my company name which my company manage and some on my wife’s name which she manages. If you have legitimate reason to have different Adsenes account (for example, myself, my wife and my company account), then its fine. But Google does not allow one person to have more than one account.
“learner” asked:
My question actually two is
will a minisite(<10pages) do better or
one should go for a big website?
how to get quality traffic to your website?
Big website is always better than any mini-site assuming the quality of content is same.
“simon” asked:
I have one question
Which websites do you use to get writers for your niche sites ?
I have a list of writers on my yahoo messenger list. If you want to get one, just contact me.
“Paid Surveys Reviewed” asked:
Wow, 16 people (your employees) is a big responsibility. Do you pay a regular wage or is it based on earnings?
Where are you based?
I pay regular wages. I am based in Pune city of India.
“jim” asked:
I’ve just spend a year playing around with blogs/blog networks and anyway to try make a few $’s the easy way.
But, my old handmade HTML pure content good keyword researched websites still bring in more money. Some of these are 3-4 years old, do you think it’s a good idea simply to add content to these older site and forget about trying to make the quick buck.
Never leave money on the table. Do both. Expand in new niches as well. Who knows which site of yours becomes monster in near future. But yes, pay more attention to your older sites. Old is gold in internet world as well.
“Richa” asked:
Can you give a comprehensive list of Google Adsense alternatives? I would like to know about every option available online for making money instead of Google Adsense.
You can see the list of adsense alternatives here. I strongly suggest kontera and adbrite. Remember, all of these google adsense alternatives are good, but none of them will come close to adsense as per earnings are concerned.
“Jenny Pretty” asked:
I have one wordpress blog, what do you think about what page should we place on the homepage? I meant, is it better to put the newest posts on the homepage? or is it better to place the page that includes all links on the homepage? when you set the number of posts on the main page, how many of posts is the best to put on the homepage? (5, or 10, or just 1).
If you are promoting it as a blog, its always good to have newest posts on the homepage. Put 5 if you don’t use to “more” wordpress tag, else use 10. But if you are not promoting a website as a blog (example: chemotherapy site), its better to have a static page as your homepage.
Ok. I think thats it for this set of questions and answers. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them. Also don’t forget to subscribe to my RSS feed.

The tax filing time is about to come in India. Many people from India are not sure on what sort of tax liability they have with respect to their Google Adsense earnings.
Are Adsense earnings taxable in India?
Yes. Adsense earnings are taxable in India. You can club these earnings your your business/professional income if this is your main source (or one of the main source) of income. If it is just your part time income and/or you are a salaried person, then you can club this income into income from “other sources.” Clubbing it with “income from other sources” may not be quite beneficial to you. Why? Read on.
Do I need to pay service tax on Adsense earnings in India?
No. In India, if you are running a website and selling/renting out space for advertising to somebody and getting paid for it, you are required to pay the service tax. But in this case, you are not renting the space, but Google is doing it for you. Google is collecting money from the advertisers and giving you the commission. Google is already paying service tax in India, so you don’t have to pay it. Else it would be a double taxation scenario.
Can I deduct my expenses from my Adsense income while calculating the earnings?
If you have added Adsense income in your “Income from business and profession”, then you can get your expenses deducted. For example, phone bills, electricity bills, internet connection bills, domain registration and hosting charges, website submission charges, advertising charges, content development payments, SEO payments, book/ebooks you bought, or any other expenses which you incurred for earning that money.
You cannot deduct your expenses when you add Adsense earnings in your “income from other sources.”
Are there any other kind of taxes on Adsense earnings?
No. Just pay your regular income tax and you are fine.

I have recently had some referral tracking issues with my “Adwords referrals” program at Google. I was seeing “conversions” but was not being paid. I could not resolve it with the support. They gave some weired reasons and I could not argue.
But today, Randy (from grownupgeek.com), who is one of the biggest firefox referral publisher, made a post about firefox referral tracking issues which he is seeing in his reports. He says that somebody from Google confirmed it that there is some bug, which is being addressed.
So does it mean that all the money which was not tracked will be lost? Or, will publishers will be compensated? I think surely not. Google will not even talk about it, I am not sure how somebody from Google even confirmed it to a publisher that it is a bug.
Are you using Adsense Referrals? Did any of you see any such problem?

We’ve given you many optimization tips over the years, and, as you know, it’s important to consider how your ad implementations affect not only your click-through rate, but your users’ and advertisers’ experience as well. To support this, we’d like to remind you of the following two guidelines when optimizing your site.1. Ads shouldn’t be placed under a title or section heading in a way that implies that the ads are not ads.For example, ads shouldn’t be placed under titles such as “Dallas Business Opportunities†or “Today’s Hot Dealsâ€. Placing ads directly below titles such as these implies to your users that the links in the ads are publisher-created content. The example below shows a placement that does not follow this guideline.2. Ads should be easily distinguishable from surrounding content.Similarly, you should not place an ad unit by a group of links that has identical colors and line spacing. Doing so may cause users to think the ad unit is content created by you. In this situation, we recommend using a different color for the ad titles or indenting the ad unit to help distinguish the ads from your own content. This screenshot shows an implementation that does not follow this guideline:
As you can imagine, users who click on ads that they think are publisher-created content may lose trust in your site and decide not to return in the future. It’s important to keep their interests in mind, as well as your own. Also, advertisers can tell which sites have a high conversion rate for them using Placement Performance reports. A conversion occurs when a click on an ad leads directly to user behavior that the advertiser deems valuable, such as a purchase, sign-up, page view, or lead. Advertisers have the option to exclude your site from their campaigns and may do so if it is not leading to conversions. We believe these guidelines invest in the long-term health of the relationship between AdSense publishers, AdWords advertisers, and your sites’ visitors, and that they will help ensure your continued success in the AdSense program.Posted by Meridith Major - AdSense Publisher Support

March is a not a so good month for me. There were so many unexpected things that came my way. Things that were obstacles in my quest to make more money online. The biggest obstacle is school examination. The preparation although it was a cramming one took a lot of my time from blogging. Cramming for an examination is exhausting. I always cram for examinations in the past 2 years. I used not to, until blogging came to my life and boredom in studying my lessons and going to school struck me. School is not always fun.Another obstacle was my internet connection. I’m using broadband but sometimes I can’t connect online. Weather conditions could have contributed to this problem. Some of my blogs’ PR dropped as well which had a huge impact on my earnings. So anyway, let’s go straight to the meat of this post.My earnings for this month:click image to enlarge$480- from all the earning sites I am in except adsense. For quick money check this.$166- Adsense earnings which I will be receiving this March 30. I always count my adsense earnings as part of the earnings on the month that I receive them.$90- pending earnings as it is still March 27,2008.Total= $736 or 29,808 in Peso CurrencyAll other payments I shall be receiving on the first week of April shall be counted as part of my April earnings.I am not satisfied with the money I have made this month. I was aiming for $1000 for this month so that I can finance my “review” these months of April and onwards. I have to push myself to do more and work on affiliate marketing. If only I could pull in additional $500 a month from affiliate marketing programs. That’s a challenge I am imposing on myself at the moment. I need to develop an affiliate marketing scheme or strategy that will work for me with less of a cost. I will talk more about affiliate marketing and programs next time.To my readers who wish to make money online, dream big, work hard, and never quit!

As you may know, we’ll send you a Personal Identification Number (PIN) by standard mail when your account first reaches $10 in earnings. This PIN is used to help verify publisher accounts and addresses for security purposes. We often receive messages from publishers concerned about what to look for in the mail, and when they can expect to receive it. In response, we’ve created the short video below which we hope will help address these issues. It might not be a Hollywood production but hey…even the greats started small
If you don’t receive your first PIN, you can still request up to two more. Please note that aside from verifying your PIN, other holds may apply to your account — you’ll need to remove all holds and generate $100 in earnings before a payment can take place.Posted by Arlene Lee - AdSense Publisher Support

Ok.. so here’s the update to the program ShareaPic.net. Please don’t be confused with the one that has a dot com to it ok…Anyway, Shareapic no longer lets you earn by google adsense but instead they have opted to go with Bidvertiser instead like what I’ve mentioned in my previous post. So you are still going to be able to earn two ways from the program. Meaning, you’ll earn from clicks on your photos or images and if anyone clicks on your bidvertiser ads, you’ll earn from that one too.The third way is where I am swayed here. I used to promote urlcash as you can see from the previous post but what I’ve noticed is, even when I specify the links are clean, sometimes adult ads still come on.. and this is an absolute no, no to me. Of course if you don’t mind that by all means continue with that program :)Since then, I have found Ucash.in which is also a program that converts your link to paying ones.
This program also lets you convert multiple links from such programs like shareapic.net so all you need to do is copy the code given at shareapic, click on “multiple links”, enter all the codes and make sure you click on “Create Gallery”.. and you done!Enjoy your paying links and have a great week ahead :)Cheerio…

Anyone following this blog will know that I am an avid fan of Shareapic.net. I mean, I am able to store photos for free, save my hard disk space in the process, share it friends, and earn money at the same time. Why shouldn’t I be a fan right (and if you’re not, well you should be..lolzz)Anyway you can’t earn adsense with the program anymore now but they’ve added bidvertiser instead recently. So if you are in the program, make sure you include your bidvertiser code in your profile and if you are not a bidvertiser member, you can easily join here and then add your code at shareapic. Easy??pay per clickBidvertiser minimum payout is $10 via paypal :)Cheerio…

Going back to the history of how I started making money online, my only goal at first was to earn $30 or over a thousand pesos every month. I achieved that goal without a blog and without an internet connection at home. I had to go to an internet cafe to be able to go online. But it was all worth it. I was able to generate a thousand to add to my monthly student allowance. Then I thirst for more money. This time I aimed for a $100 a month. I started two blogs, joined adsense and other make money online programs. Not long enough I earned $100 a month. Then I thirst for more money again, I joined many earning sites, blog and blog and blog, until I begin earning $500 a month to over $800 a month at times. But now I want more again. I want to earn a regular $1000 a month. But I am graduating this march and will review for 6 months, this means I will have less time blogging. But that doesn’t stop me. I see a huge flow of money in affiliate marketing. I have been trying affiliate programs for months now and I get a decent money from it. At least I get a few hundred dollars to wait at the end of every month by just placing a simple code at my blogs.Affiliatte Marketing is one of the best way to make money online but the lead to success in this field is very tough. But success is achievable. Following the same direction when I first ventured into money making, I’m trying my luck.A few days ago I joined PepperjamNetwork. I have seen many affiliate marketers who are not bloggers who are making a lots of money from PepperjamNetwork which pays every two weeks with a minimum of only $25. In fact Zacjohnson and John Chow themselves promote Pepperjamnetwork. If you are curious about PepperjamNetwork just click the banner below and you will be sent to the PepperjamNetwork. Goodluck!

Thinking about quitting your blog? Dee Stewart examines some way to give it a new lease of life.
Thinking about cutting the plug on your blog?
I almost did last year after I found myself busy with other projects, my Adsense and Chitika checks were waining and especially after I noticed that many of my blog friends had shut down their blogs or were barely using them. At first I wondered was I kissing a dinosaur? Should I stop blogging and move onto something better?
But for some odd reason my blog would not go gentle into that goodnight.
Furthermore, as a host of niche book blog I still had tons of books to review, local and national book events planned, authors penned in my interview calendar and book news to get out. I couldn’t end things, if I wanted to.
So I went back through some of the blog comments to get another perspective on the matter. To my surprise, I discovered the blog, had ideas, plans and things to share with me about our future. We began to reconnect and slowly CFB has brought back that blogging feeling to me. Perhaps your blog wants to do that to you.
Here are 5 things your blog comments provide that can help breathe life back into your blog.
1. Go back and read your blogs comments
I spent one day wading through many of my old blog comments. I noticed the comments shifted from a basic love of books, to help me guide my writing life; from kudos to prayer requests, from thanks to questioning my faith. The blog was no longer an extension of my writing life, but my personal life, as well. I discovered my blog entries didn’t reflect those changes. My new focus would.
2. Take Cues from Negative Comments
Negative Comments are great sources for new blog entries. You can:
* Debunk a Myth told by a Commenter, which increases your credibility.
* Ask the Commenter to become a guest blogger and speak on that subject, which drives a different, but complimentary demographic to your site.
* Use it to build a poll, so that your readers can participate, which makes your blog more organic.
3. Use Unique Comments for Blog Series
Some times you get comments on your post that wow you. “Oh, I never thought of that” Moments I call them. An actor friend of mine gave me information about a national stage play he was a part of I posted the information and I received so many private emails and comments about this play that I realized that people are searching for this information. Now once a month I promote a touring stage play.
4. Post Comments for Weekend Feedback
I use a Weekend Chatterbox feature on the weekend that opens commenters up to discuss whatever is my question for the weekend. This question usually comes from a comment from the blog that peaked my interest for further discussion. This Chatterbox spills into your readers blogs, which is a great way to build a blog movement.
5. Farm Guestbloggers
As you continue to receive more comments, you will build subscribers and foster friendships with some of the commenters. They will follow you all over the blogosphere and comment wherever you land. Those subscribers are like baby chicks. They know your land. They know what works. They will email you and give you suggestions, but more importantly, they will jump at the chance to guestblog. Daren doesn’t know it, but he’s farming thousands, including me.
Bonus: After I reconnected with my blog some wild things happened. My Amazon sales went up, CPCs rose, subscribers increased, I received more writing gigs and a new opportunity as Entertainment Editor for a national womens print magazine…the blog begin to pulse again.

Never put all your eggs in one basket. This is a mantra that John has been saying for a long time, especially when it comes to monetizing your blog. There are countless ad networks that can supplement or even replace Google Adsense, so you shouldn’t feel restricted in how you make money online.
Seemingly acting as a competitor to Text Link Ads, LinkXL ordered this review to emphasize why they’re better. And the main reason for this? “All links [are] placed with a patented proprietary system that has no footprint to be seen.”
How Does LinkXL Work?
Although they may claim otherwise, LinkXL isn’t really a contextual ad service. Instead, advertisers can search through the marketplace of publishers to find specific pages where they want to advertise. And it gets even more specific than that, because they can select the exact anchor text they would like to have link back to their websites.

LinkXL is an in-text advertising system not unlike IntelliTXT and Kontera ContentLink. The difference is that the links served by LinkXL do not have a distinctive style; the paid links adopt the same color and underline scheme as backlinks that the publisher included him or herself. This stealth monetization is in sharp contrast to competing services that do the double-underline scheme. In this way, site visitors are not even aware that these are paid links in the first place. That is, unless the publisher discloses as such.
Note that the paid links served by LinkXL — which can be set as either nofollow or dofollow — are only placed within the content itself. They do not sell links in the sidebar or the footer.
Registration and Setup
To register as a LinkXL publisher, you’ll need to fill out a brief application form. There is no approval process, because as soon as you verify your email address, your account is good to go. This makes LinkXL very accessible for small publishers who may otherwise have trouble getting approved for link broker services.
After signing in for the first time, you’ll be granted access to the member area.

The control panel is reasonably straightforward with most of the navigation found along the left sidebar. When you add a site, you can set the default link price based on the Google PR of that page. You can also set the max number of keywords for sale on the page and specify the most appropriate category. A little further along on the wizard, you can also specify “hot” keywords. These can carry a premium price.

The easiest way to implement LinkXL on your blog is through the Wordpress plug-in. After uploading via FTP and activating the plug-in through your Wordpress dashboard, the only step remaining is to connect your blog with your LinkXL account. From there, you can choose where you want to sell ads too.

And that’s all there is to it. Installation was a piece of cake. Now you just have to wait for advertisers to buy your links. I’d imagine that dofollow links are more attractive, because they want that link juice, especially since it’s so cleverly masked.
Payment and Pricing
In terms of fees and payouts, LinkXL takes a 40% commission on all links sold. Competing services typically do a 50/50 split, so this is marginally better. Publishers are paid on the 10th of each month for all revenue collected during the previous month, assuming that their account balance reaches the minimum threshold of $100. Payment is available via PayPal or mailed check.
Too Deceptive For My Tastes
LinkXL is certainly not the first company to offer a paid link service, but they do have a few things that set them apart from the competition. Advertisers are able to not only hand-select where they want their links published, but also choose specific anchor text after the fact. There really is zero footprint, until a site visitor clicks on one of those links and finds themselves on a commercial site.
Although I realize this may sound a little hypocritical, I personally find that LinkXL is too deceptive for my tastes. How you feel on the matter is up to you.

What has happened so far with this website?
Some income has started to trickle in from Google AdSense. But not enough to get excited.
I am continuing in adding articles to the site. The goal is to get appox. 100 to 200 articles. This should attract the search engines.Â
Some of the pages are indexed and I am getting traffic. A small portion of traffic. But most of it is coming from international search sites. Which in some cases seems to be bad. I need to match the traffic with the offers.
I have started to write articles to publish and I have published a few. But I will need plenty more in the future.
I have not enough in terms of getting other links. This is an area of improvement on my part.
So, next up once again is to continue on the marketing by getting links and writing more articles. If you have look around the site lately you will also noticed that I have added a lot more links from not only CJ.com but amazon and neverblueads.com. I just brought in neverblueads.com so I want to see how there ads transition.
Teaching Note: Google is going to have this site in low ranking for at least 6 months. During this time you will want to get as many links as possible.Â
Start with directories. There are plenty to choose from but try to find a few that have consistent and high PR for the area that your thinking about getting a link in.
Next work on forums. Most forums will allow you to create a link in your signature. Participate a lot in your area of interest and gain extra links.
Exchange links with other website - This is time consuming but it can pay off.
Note: I ran across a site that create a forum just for links. The forum catered directly to the niche websites and as the forum caught on the links got larger. Their was a link from each page on the forum.Â
Go offline - I see a lot of people going offline to advertise their websites. Although, I have not researched this one very much, I would start with a local advertising agency and see if they can find dead time, spot that could not be sold on TV. These spots are usually very cheap and reasonable for most people.
That is it for today. Here is a side note.. I will be going on vacation next week so I may not get a chance to post. But check the site cheap-dj-systems.com to see what new.

If you’re well versed in webspeak, you’re probably familiar with the concept of stickiness — the quality that entices web users to stick around a given site. Here at AdSense, we’re down with the web version of stickiness, but we’ve got a different kind of adhesive in mind: the kind that lets you take the AdSense logo a-go-go.That’s right, we’re talking stickers. We’ve printed up a batch of AdSense stickers, and we’d be delighted to send one or two your way, wherever you are in the world. The stickers are designed for laptops, but they’ll work just as well for placement on mugs, skateboards, or temporarily on a shirt. (Note: turning a pal into a walking Google ad without their knowledge is not recommended.)So how do you get one of these glue-backed masterpieces? Easy: send us a self-addressed, stamped envelope with enough postage to return 1 oz of sticker goodness to you from our office in California via standard U.S. mail. (Sorry, we can’t help you calculate the postage to your location). Send your envelope, along with a note if you’d like, to:Google AdSensec/o Arlene Lee1600 Amphitheatre ParkwayMountain View, CA 94043USASupplies are limited, so send your envelope soon! Then you can stick with AdSense wherever you go. (And one last thing to keep in mind: while we’re flattered that you might want a whole box, note that we’re only able to provide one or two per publisher.)Posted by Julie Beckmann - AdSense Publisher Support
